Āgenskalns market

Open since 1898, Āgenskalns Market is the largest and oldest market on the left bank of the Daugava River and holds the status of a national cultural monument. From 2018 to 2022, the market’s historical pavilion underwent an extensive renovation and now everyone is invited to observe the impressive results after the restoration.

On the first (ground) floor of the renovated pavilion, farmers and home producers offer a wide variety of produce, – here, the customers can find both well-known and brand-new producers. The second floor is the place to enjoy a meal and drinks in the lively market atmosphere. The market is open daily.

Āgenskalns Market is an inclusive, versatile and environmentally friendly public space, hosting a wide variety of cultural, educational and other events.


Kalnciema Quarter

Kalnciema Quarter is a bright and lively spot in Riga, on the left bank of the Daugava River, in the green and colourful area of Pārdaugava. It regularly hosts events for families and children, art exhibitions, plays, open-air concerts, and educational events. Kalnciema Quarter is particularly famous for its weekly market – ever since 2008, on Saturdays, local farmers and artisans have been bringing their versatile produce to Kalnciema Quarter. Market is on Saturdays year round.

The cluster of renovated wooden buildings contains a Wooden  Architecture center , Wine shop and cafe, offering wine from the small vineyards of Marche, Italy, an art gallery and a design salon.

 

Vīnkalni pizzeria

For 15 years, the Zentiņu family has been baking authentic Italian pizzas at their countryside home in Beverīna Municipality at the open-air pizzeria Vīnkalni. Āgenskalns Market is the first place where these delicious, oven-baked pizzas can be regularly found in the capital city. Vīnkalni pizzas have been praised by both locals and foreigners, and it’s no wonder that the family’s pride has earned the title of Europe’s best main dish.

AsaGi

If you’re craving Asian cuisine, head to Asagi on the second floor without a second thought. The café’s menu features all your favorite Japanese dishes (including vegetarian options) – warm and cold sushi, kimchi, wok dishes, ramen, miso and tom yum soups, poke bowls – and the drink menu includes characteristic bubble teas and Hata Ramune.

Hačapurija

 

The owner of Hačapurija, Raivo, lived in Abkhazia, Georgia for 7 years and learned the art of making the best khachapuri from the locals. He established an authentic Georgian cuisine café right here in Latvia. Traditional Georgian khachapuri is filled with homemade cheese, prepared on-site at the market. The menu also includes khinkali, regional soups and vegan Georgian salads. After a hearty meal, you can refresh yourself with lemonades imported from Georgia. Be sure to try the tarragon lemonade.

Borščs

Often the longest line of diners lingers at Borščs – delicious at the Ukrainians’. Here hearty, homemade meals arrive every morning from the Ģertrūde Street kitchen, so warm lunches are available right away. The menu features classics from Ukrainian and neighboring cuisines, but everyone must try the borscht served with pampushky and salo at least once.
